Again, I’ll be frank with you…
I talk to you about why the “I” is holding you back.
And no, it’s not about you. It’s not your fault. There are other “I’s” involved here. Those are “I’s” that stick around your “I”.
Within each of those I’s there might be a hindrance, an obstacle in between you and your performance. So to speak, you have to put another “eye” on them to overcome that hindrance.
And when you consider all “I’s” using all “eyes” you may recognize a similarity amongst all of them. It’s that similarity that makes the common obstacle to success in current times and may have a big draw on you professionally as well as personally.
Can you discover that obstacle amongst all “I’s”?
Return back to these posts for these revelations.
Now continue with…
What a waste! Can’t I reuse that?
We invested a lot in our systems. And customers loved the functional updates we performed on them. That way we’d grown markets. We’d made them big. Great times.
But now. Competitors don’t have similar systems, systems we understand, systems we can learn from, so we can update our own. No, they have substitutions! Whole new types of systems and services. 3D-printing?!? They disrupt our existing markets we cherished for so long! Whole new markets arise overnight and sometime later they are disrupted again by some new kind of service or technology.
Can I disrupt too? What kind of thinking do I need for that? Is there a key to this?
Because I said so!
Where are those times when you were believed on your word? I’d status! Authority! People followed my leadership despite my flaws. I had designed my imago. I could live a business life aside from my personal life.
I have to be personal in my business. My personal and business lives blend. I have to be authentic. Real. Not an image. I cannot polish away my flaws. Scary.
My outer ranks will be justified, more sooner than later, on my inner dignity. I have to develop my inner dignity in accordance with my outer rank.
Is there a key to leadership?
That can be dealt with later. Just move forward…
Just to proceed, I do not have to know everything. A sense of overview is enough. Good is good enough. Occasionally, superficiality will do. Postponement isn’t that bad. It used to be that way.
Now I cannot get away with it. Postponement becomes procrastination. I cannot afford that.
Nowadays, having overview will not do. Having the quintessence is what counts. Superficiality will not do either. That is replaced by thoroughness. And procrastination? That is replaced by conclusiveness.
To move forward is not about to placate and to appease. It’s about to inspire!
What key causes these transitions?
I’m not to blame! Who is?
I had my sphere of influence tightly defined. A clear perimeter within which I had my responsibility. Beyond that perimeter it was not mine. Someone else was to blame. Even when the effects of my actions cascaded through the organization I had my scope of responsibility clear.
But now? Nobody cares about scope. Reach is what counts today. I get to blame when the effects of my decisions cascade and reaches out even beyond the perimeter of my organization; of my client’s organization; of even my client’s clients organization far away into society. I get to blame when the effects of my decisions passes to generations yet to come.
Scope has become a joke. Reach is what counts.
What is my sphere of influence? What order ripples from me beyond my control? Is there a key I can use for purposes of explanation and prediction?
Consider the lists in previous posts and this post. Have you found the commonality amongst them?
Surely you’ve found again…
I’ve addressed a key.
Have you discovered what this key is?
